Al Guyness, age 62, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025. Al accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at First Zion Missionary Baptist Church in 1969, under the late Rev. H. G. Coleman.
As a youth, Al served the Lord faithfully, in the junior angelic choir, on the youth usher board and as a junior deacon. Al was never ashamed to profess his love for the Lord and would do so at every opportunity. Al graduated from East Technical High School in Cleveland, Ohio in 1980. From there, he served our country as a Medic in the United States Army. After four years of service in Germany, he received an honorable discharge and returned home to Ohio. Following his military service, Al found his vocation in the quality control sector, where he worked for many years. On May 21, 1994, he married the love of his life Ashira El-Amin (Rita). Al and Rita lived in Charlotte NC, for several years and eventually returned back to Akron Ohio.
Al spent several years enjoying and spending time with his nephews and nieces, Paul, Graham, Ray, Walter Jr., Raynita, Cameron, Annie and Landon. Al loved photography, karate, Star Trek and all genres of music. He was an artist in his own right and had a special talent for collecting guitars and swords, and his nephew Paul inherited a love for playing the guitar from him. Al was a great cook, and a "foodie" before that was a thing; he loved food, especially his grandmother's cooking. Al was a simple man with a unique sense of humor and a remarkable memory. He was a gentle soul who had an uncommon ability to talk your ear off if given a chance. Al would tell a story from 50 years ago and include every last detail. While facing life's trials and adversities, Al remained positive and courageous and never let go of the strong faith he had in God.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alonzo Emmett Guyness and the mother Willie Jo Guyness, Al leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife Rita, his sister Michelle Emery (Stephen) and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends.
