Joseph Feil

Joseph Feil died at Sunrise Senior Living in Cuyahoga Falls on 2/24/2025. He was 91 years old. Joe was born in New York City to Gail and Ruth Feil. At a young age the family moved to Cuyahoga Falls where Joe grew up with his two sisters. He attended Purdue University and MIT on the way to become a chemical engineer and joined The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company on graduation. He retired in January 2001 with 41 years of service. He then taught school for another 11 years at Goodyear Jr High School and the Digital Academy.

Joe was active in The American Institute of Chemical Engineers and The Akron Council of Engineering and Scientific Societies (ACESS), having served as chairman of both. He was also active in the Akron Council for hearing Impaired Children and president in 1968. For years he cooked spaghetti sauce at dinner once a year for benefit of deaf classes in public schools in Summit County. He was a member of the Unitarian Church of Akron since youth. His favorite sport was tennis which he enjoyed until his last days. He also occasionally played the violin, usually in a duet with his beloved wife at the piano.

In 1958 he married Ines Maria Stelberg, who had arrived in this country from Germany only two years earlier. They settled in Akron (Ohio) and together they had three children.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ines, his sisters, Judy Cushing and Susan Thornton and his son, Thomas. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Sue (Rob Scholten) and Karen (Scott Carbaugh), his grandsons, Donny (Yuuki), Jared (Franceen), Dan (Hannah), Shawn (Hilary) and Michael (Brenna) and his great grandchildren Maria, Kylee, Ethan, JJ, Adrian, and Johnny.
