Mary Ahrens

November 23, 1942 — February 24, 2025

Mary Elizabeth (McAfee) Grega Ahrens (82) passed away on Monday February 24,2025 at The Woodlands in Ravenna where she had been a resident for the past 4 ½ years. Mary was born on November 23,1942 in Pomeroy, OH. She graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1960, then completed a 6 month Medical Assistant program at the Carnegie College Medical Laboratory School in Cleveland in August 1961.

Mary was married to Joseph M. Grega, the father of her three sons Joseph (Joe), Scott and Stephen (Steve) and two stepsons Michael (Mike) and Gary, until he passed away on August 1,1972. She later married Kenneth C. Ahrens on September 2, 1995 and even though their marriage ended in 2011, they still remained friends.

During her working years, Mary was employed at Eagle Plastics in Stow and NBD International, Inc in Ravenna until she retired. She enjoyed reading the Record Courier - the local newspaper, magazines and especially romance novels. Two of her favorite authors were Danielle Steel and Nora Roberts. She also enjoyed camping, fishing and boating on West Branch, where she could relax and enjoy a good book. She loved going to yard sales, flea markets and thrift stores. But spending time with her family is what she treasured the most. Whether it was a small family picnic or a large holiday dinner, she loved when her family was together.

Mary is survived by her daughter in law Sheila Grega of Hartville; grandsons Nathan and Ryan; daughter in law Patty Grega of Rootstown, grandchildren Joe, Cathy (Cat), great-grandson Joey; and her favorite niece Kathy Franklin of Lancaster,OH along with her extended family of nephews, nieces and friends who will miss her greatly.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Joseph M. Grega; stepfather Andrew S. Grega; mother Freda (Will) Grega; sister Martha Joan "Sissy" O'Neil; sons Joe, Scott, Steve and stepson Mike.

Per Mary's request, there will be no funeral services. Cremation has already taken place and she will be laid to rest in Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown. A private graveside service for family and friends will be held at a future date.
